About Dr. Clinton R. Lanier
Dr. Lanier received a PhD in Rhetoric and Professional Communication from New Mexico State University in 2006 after spending six years in professional communication for the high-tech industry. His focus is on digital media and he specializes in web-based communication.
In 2008 Dr. Lanier became the Director of Web Communication for the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology. He directed the creation of a new content management system for the school, updating the university’s web-presence and initiating online marketing strategies.
Dr. Lanier focused heavily on social media marketing strategies to increase the school’s enrollment. From 2007-2009 the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology saw decreasing freshman enrollments. From 2009-2012 (after Dr. Lanier began his social media and online marketing strategies) the school saw record enrollments.
Dr. Lanier resigned from full-time academia in 2012 to begin helping other businesses, school and organizations create powerful and successful online and social media marketing campaigns.
He is currently consulting for a number of companies of all sizes and his own company, Word One Consulting, is managing the social media presence of local and national businesses.
Dr. Lanier has written extensively about social media marketing: his column runs every two weeks in the Las Cruces Sun News, and his online columns can be found at Technorati as well as other online news sources. He has been featured in a number of edited collections, has written a book on social media for college recruiting, and has a forthcoming book about building a social media presence for small businesses.
